Frequently Asked Questions
WLL (Working Load Limit) is the maximum safe load a shackle can handle in service. It is calculated as the minimum breaking load (MBL) divided by the safety factor. All ZHILI shackles use a 6:1 safety factor, meaning the shackle breaks at 6x the marked WLL.
How to select:
- Step 1 — Know your load: Determine the total weight being lifted including rigging gear. Multiply by the lifting configuration factor (1.0 for single leg vertical, 1.4 for 60-degree sling angle).
- Step 2 — Match WLL: Select a shackle whose marked WLL exceeds the calculated effective load. Never exceed the WLL, even momentarily.
- Step 3 — Check pin fit: Verify the shackle pin diameter matches your sling eye or lifting lug hole. The pin should pass through freely without slop.
- Step 4 — Consider temperature: For service above 200 C, reduce the WLL by 10% for every 100 C above 200 C. For service above 500 C, switch to 25Cr2Ni4WA heat-resistant grade.
Quick reference: 1/2″ shackle = 2.0 t WLL | 3/4″ = 4.75 t | 1″ = 8.5 t | 1-1/2″ = 17 t | 2″ = 35 t. All values marked on each shackle body for traceability.
Every ZHILI shackle is manufactured under rigorous quality control and supplied with full traceability documentation. The following certificates are available based on your requirements:
- EN 10204 3.1 Material Certificate (standard): Included with every order at no extra cost. Documents the chemical analysis, mechanical test results (tensile, yield, elongation, impact), and heat number for full traceability from raw material to finished product.
- Proof Load Test Certificate (standard): Each shackle is proof-tested to 2x WLL and visually inspected for deformation. The test certificate records the applied load, duration, and pass/fail result.
- EN 10204 3.2 Third-Party Inspection (optional): Available upon request. An independent inspector (Lloyd’s, BV, DNV, SGS, TUV) witnesses the testing and certifies results. Typically required for offshore and critical lifting applications.
- CE / UKCA Marking (optional): Available for shackles destined for the European and UK markets, confirming compliance with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations.
Marking on every shackle: WLL (tonnes), CE mark (if applicable), batch/heat number, manufacturer mark (ZHILI), and size designation. Permanent stamping — never paint marks that can wear off.
Yes. ZHILI specializes in custom shackles for cement plant applications including preheater connection points, kiln shell maintenance rigging, and high-temperature material handling. We manufacture both standard and non-standard designs:
- Preheater connection shackles: 25Cr2Ni4WA heat-resistant grade for dip tube hanging points and cyclone internal connections. Rated for continuous 800 C service with maintained mechanical properties.
- Over-size bow shackles: Custom extra-wide bow opening for multi-layer sling connections or large-diameter lifting lugs. Any bow width and pin diameter available.
- Welded master links + shackle assemblies: Complete lifting sets with forged master links, shackles, and sling connectors, proof-tested as a complete assembly.
- Short lead time for standard sizes: 1/2″ through 1-1/2″ standard shackles typically ship from stock within 7 days. Custom sizes and high-temperature grades require 15-20 days.
Custom quote checklist: Send us (1) WLL required in tonnes, (2) pin diameter and bow opening width, (3) maximum service temperature, (4) pin type preference (screw pin, bolt+nut+cotter, or captive pin), and (5) certificate requirements.
