Individual replaceable grate bars form the sizing grate assembly. Unlike monolithic grate plates, individual bars can be replaced one at a time when worn, reducing maintenance cost. Each bar spans between two frame supports and is subject to bending stress from hammer impact and material load. Material selection balances wear resistance with sufficient bending strength for the unsupported span.
