What Is a Crusher Hammer Head?

A crusher hammer head is the core wear part of hammer crushers and impact crushers, responsible for striking and crushing raw materials (ore, rock, construction waste) into smaller particles through repeated high-impact collisions. As the component that endures the most severe mechanical stress in the entire crushing system, the quality of the hammer head directly determines crushing efficiency, product granularity, and equipment downtime costs.

ZHILI manufactures hammer heads using three primary material systems — High Manganese Steel (Mn13Cr2 / Mn18Cr2), High Chromium Cast Iron (Cr26 / Cr27), and Bi-Metallic Composite — each engineered for specific feed material hardness, impact load conditions, and service life requirements.

Working Principle

Material Intake — Raw ore or rock enters the crushing chamber via a vibrating feeder, typically sized 200–500 mm depending on crusher type.

Impact Fracture — The rotor spins at 1,000–2,400 RPM. Hammer heads mounted on the rotor strike the incoming material at velocities of 25–45 m/s, delivering impact energy of 5,000–30,000 J per strike.

Grinding & Re-crushing — Materials are thrown against breaker plates or anvil bars for secondary fracturing, then repeatedly struck by rotating hammers until they pass through the grate openings.

Discharge — Crushed product exits below the grate bar assembly. The final particle size is determined by the grate opening width, typically 10–50 mm.
